To the creators of Because of Amelia, thank you, It is a wonderful site.
I wish I had grown up knowing my complete family, I almost did grow up in Louisiana.
My mother was young when I was born, because of that my father Leroy Cannon, thought it best that his mother raise me. So he planned to take me to her. However I never got to meet Grandmother Amelia.
My grandma became suspicious, when he wanted so many diapers, since he was only taking me out for the day. So, she and my uncle followed him and caught up with him as he waited to board the bus with me in his arms. It was many years later when my father told me about it, he said he should have realized one baby didn't need that many diapers. As he was telling it to me he seemed to think it was funny, but then he stopped and said! I wish they hadn't caught up with me. Those words meant everything to me and they still do!
However, I now live in Europe, for me this site is like a cyber bridge to the parts of family I always wanted to know or get to know again.
Though I haven’t gone through all the photo albums yet, for now I can say what a great - looking family I have.
I look forward to viewing this site often. Please write me about your life growing up knowing Grandmother Amelia or just about yourself (past and present).
